If anyone wants to see the heart of the left, read this column in The Week by Robert Shrum, a former advisor to the 2000 Al Gore campaign. I won't go into all the details, but it's summed up in the final paragraph:
In the end, this election will be more than a contest of policy or even personality; it will become a test of America’s character. We'll pass it, I predict...
A test of America's character? So, if you don't vote for Barack Obama, you have bad character? Please explain to me how that isn't condescending...
(By the way, the article also sets out a clear excuse, just in case Obama loses the election. Of course the staple of this excuse is racism and right-wing smear; another example of the lack of accountability from the left. If they lose, its always either the mean, evil, rich Republicans' fault for being unethical or it's the dumb religion-and-gun-clinging voters' fault who don't have enough character or intelligence to vote Democrat.)

The article is full of assumptions and other infirm ideas, but it is a "News & Opinion" piece, like this blog, so he can spout whatever he wants.
Granted, most people who see it will not not the "Opinion" part, which that article makes me want to place before the word "News" ... but that is just me.

Andy! You found me. :) I just got your address this morning from your sister to send you an invitation. You're having a baby! That's so exciting. I bet Holly is the cutest pregnant lady. :) Well, I'm not making this comment very political...I'll work on that. :) Nice to hear from you! Get that family blog up soon.

Bail-out post coming soon...you better believe it...I'm practically foaming out-the-mouth over it...
About the column, though - I understand that it is not news. Don't confuse two pet-peaves of mine. The first is liberal bias in the media, the other is the ingrained condescension from the left. Columnists can say whatever they want and I won't call them biased. (However if a newspaper which claims to be objective and non-partisan has an overwhelmingly left-leaning columnist roster, I think both pet-peaves apply.)
My point in this post, however, was not that The Week is left leaning/biased (which is also true, but not applicable in the context of a column), but rather that this particular left-ist columnist summed up brilliantly the condescending attitude of the left. He basically says that anyone who votes for John McCain has no character and implies that if John McCain wins it will be because of racism. Not only the racism of the electorate but the racist tactics of the Republicans. Obama and company have been saying forever that the Republicans are bound to start smearing, injecting race and religion into the campaign. Here's a link to a good quote that Obama said about that: http://www.realclearpolitics.com/cross_tabs/2008/08/obamas_dollar_bill_comment_tri.html
No one has brought any of that stuff into the campaign except Obama himself and stupid internet smearers.
Anyways, I just wanted to clarify that my beef isn't with the article, but with the condescending ideology that I find everywhere on the left. That is why Obama and his surrogates get labeled as elitists.
(That is a great political cartoon, by the way)
